Remineralize & Revitalize Your Healthy Smile
Don’t let them tell you can’t heal your teeth and gums naturally. You can! You don’t have to grin and bear tooth pain until you get to a dentist. With this three pronged approach–nutrition, hygiene and pharmacology–you can whiten, tighten, heal, rebuild and strengthen your teeth, restore gum health and really have something to smile about.
I started my tooth healing regimen by adding raw butter and cod liver oil to my daily diet, and performing Oil Pulling, an ancient Ayurvedic method of drawing or ‘pulling’ toxins from your tissue by swishing oil in the mouth for oral and systemic health. I also made my own remineralizing toothpaste and rinsed with a food grade hydrogen peroxide solution.
Every morning, I soaked my mouth with a tablespoon of sunflower or coconut oil for 20 minutes. I cooked with raw butter and spread it on whole grain toast. I took cod liver oil, either straight or in gel caps, and mega-dosed Vitamin C powder daily. I brushed and flossed, followed by soaking with the hydrogen peroxide solution every morning and fastidiously brushing and flossing after every meal throughout the day.
By the end of the first week my toothache had turned a corner and the pain lessened. Over the next week I noticed my teeth were looking stronger. A slight dark yellow spot and a tiny fissure deep within my front tooth that I’d had for decades were fading, and my teeth were feeling better rooted in my gums. I stopped the oil pulling by the second week but kept up the fish oil and daily hydrogen peroxide rinses. By the end of the third week, all my tooth pain was gone and my teeth were whiter than ever. They even felt straighter and the edges of the tooth surfaces felt smooth and strong.
I also made my own toothpaste to have more control over the ingredients. Seems there is no one toothpaste brand that has all the ingredients I want, like calcium powder and baking soda and hydrogen peroxide, and none of the ingredients I don’t want like sodium laurel sulfate which People’s Pharmacy health writers Joe and Terry Graedon suggest that eliminating it from your toothpaste can help cure canker sores. D.I.Y. to the rescue!
Tooth Healing Ingredients:
Sunflower or Coconut Oil (for oil pulling/swishing)
Powdered Vitamin C
Cod Liver Oil
Raw or Grass Fed Butter
3% Hydrogen Peroxide
The basic proportions for making your own toothpaste is 5 parts mineral powder such as calcium; 2 parts baking soda; 3-5 parts coconut oil. Convert to teaspoons or tablespoons according to batch size.
For this recipe, I used coral calcium because that’s what I had on hand, and I did not use any sweetener because the coconut oil was plenty sweet for my taste. If you want that sweet toothpaste taste in your mouth, add stevia (powder or liquid) or drops of anise to the mixture.
